Timeshare exchange
How and why did the exchange concept started, and how good is it really? As stated in other pages of this site, the timeshare concept started in the 60's and as it started to grow through out the world more and more people got annoyed at the fact that they had to go to the same place, same unit same time every year. So out of a garage in the US Resort Condominium International, known to the world as R.C.I. was born. RCI now made it possible to
exchange the week
you own at your resort to another place in the RCI system with anorther owner who did not want to go to his place. That is called a Trade and RCI would charge you a yearly fee to belong and an Exchange fee to make a trade. Couple of years later Interval International known as II started as competition to RCI, the reason they started to exist was to offer a alternate choice to the developers, specially the more up scale places in timeshare.
In nowadays there are many other timeshare trading companies available, however the two largest are still RCI and II. RCI has over 4600 resorts world wide, II 2300. The difference is II was created to show the more exclusive resorts, they actually have a five star directory, as in RCI their distinction of quality is separated by Gold Crown, Silver Crown and resorts of international distinction. Gold Crown and Resorts of International Distinction have all the hotel type services i.e. daily maid, room services, phone and Internet, etc... were as the rest of the RCI resorts may not have all the above services. II works the same way, Five Star Edition has all the services, Regular Edition may not have them. There are
